Railshop, DB Bahn, Aer Lingus Fam to Munich

Railshop, DB Bahn and Aer Lingus organised a trade/media fam trip to Munich led by Catherine Grennell-Whyte. The group enjoyed a whirlwind trip to this most scenic part of Bavaria and experienced the DB Bahn ICE intercity service from Munich to Frankfurt.

The first stop on arrival was the 155-room Hotel Dorint in Garmisch,which has an amazing range of in-house sporting activities. It was here that the 1936 Winter Olympics took place. After check in it was off on a walking tour of Garmisch.

The chocolate emporium of Chocolaterie Amelie had a range of every type of hand-made chocolate that would turn any human into a ‘chocoholic’. The owner of this wonderful establishment is Franz Kasser.

The Bavarian Zugspitze Railway is one of only four rack railways still working in Germany. The metre gauge line runs from Garmisch to the Zugspitz, the highest mountain in Germany at 2,650 metres above sea level.

No matter what your expectations you have prior to visiting Germany’s highest mountain they are guaranteed to be surpassed. The sheer splendour of the vista from the top has got to be experienced.

Due to the popularity of this visitor attraction they are constructing a new Eibsee-Seilbahn cable car, which is due for completion in December 2017.

DB Bahn is one of the largest providers in the European passenger transportation market, with more than 12 million passengers daily on 30,000 trains.

DB Bahn offers high quality rail travel on ICE (Inter City Express) trains between all of the principal German cities and is a most viable transport mode for transfers between cities.

The group were able to experience the first class service as they journeyed  from the centre of Munich direct to Frankfurt Airport for their Aer Lingus flight back to Dublin.
