Travel Counsellors believes it is important for agents to gain first-hand experience of the destinations and tours they sell – and there is no better way to learn than on a fam trip!
Bernie Whelan, Business Development Coach, said: “We are constantly invited on educational trips and we really encourage our TCs to take them up. Not only does it establish them as experts in a destination, they generally pass on their experiences to fellow Travel Counsellors. First-hand knowledge has always been a best seller and always will be.”
So far this year, some Irish Travel Counsellors have taken up educational trips to Orlando, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Portugal, Hong Kong, Mauritius, South Africa and India, while many others enjoyed a weekend aboard Royal Caribbean International’s new ship, Harmony of the Seas.
“It is hard to believe, but occasionally we have to hand trips back because TCs cannot commit to attending,” added Bernie, “so if you really want a trip, the chances are you will get one!”
Last week, Travel Counsellor Donna Olohan (above) enjoyed a trip to Mauritius courtesy of Turkish Airlines and GetaBed… and because she works for herself it meant that she did not need to ask permission of anyone (unless maybe her family!). All Travel Counsellors can apply for any of the openings.
The best thing is that the company operates a ‘buddy system’ so that agents help each other manage their businesses while they are away, not just for annual leave but for educational trips too. There is no need to worry about getting time off or getting someone to ‘cover your shift’. The perfect work/life balance is made possible with services such as this.
