Paul Weir of APG Ireland has confirmed to Irish Travel Trade News that the proposed weekly Dublin – Funchal charter series, due to commence on 13th April, has been cancelled.
“As the contracted GSA for Windavia in Ireland, we greatly regret that Windavia are now unable to fulfill their intended flight operations from Dublin to Funchal this summer,” he said. “This has, of course, proved to be a huge disappointment to their customers in Ireland, and also to ourselves.
“Windavia are refunding in full any tickets that have already been paid for. The airline is also in discussions with other parties who have expressed an interest in operating this route for at least some of the season.”
Portuguese start-up Windavia was to launch the weekly service operating on Sundays from 13th April to 5th October 2014 and using Airbus A320 aircraft. A service to Madeira was previously operated by SATA Air Azores.
The charter was to be shared by Concorde Travel, Sunway, Topflight, and Travel Department.
