I had the pleasure of visiting Cabu by the lakes in Co Cavan this week.
We were given an exclusive look at their new 2 and 3 bedroom cabins, available to book from March. These 15 new woodland cabins were “led by the standout three bedroom barnhouse with hot tub” Which was spectacular.

Cabu by the lakes is a truly magical place, set within the tranquil woodlands of killykeen forest park on the shores of Lough Oughter. The cabins are thoughtfully spaced so that you don’t have the feeling of being overlooked or lacking that solitude so many of us crave. You get the sense of being in the wilderness, at one with nature , removed from the hustle and bustle of your everyday city life, yet with the option of luxury and convenience all within easy reach. Whether it be in indulging in a spa treatment, relaxing in a hot tub or just lounging in the cabin club sipping a cocktail whilst taking in all the sounds around you, Cabu for me truly has it all. That sense with being at one with nature and yet maintaining life’s little indulgent luxuries.

The cabins at Cabu have been carefully thought out, each piece of furniture, art work or coffee table book has been intentionally selected to reflect the aesthetics of the surrounding landscape. The Cabins blend ” seamlessly into their surroundings”. They are incredibly spacious, perfect for a family or a group of friends looking to unwind and escape the city together, and to top it off, it’s dog friendly. Not the “dogs must stay in your room ” kind. Your fury 4 legged family member gets their own bed by the fire, their own water bowls and they are welcome everywhere from bar to boat. They even have doggy lifejackets! They have thought of everything.

Each Cabin has their own piece of outdoor space, with a seating area, picnic bench and BBQ. Everything here has been carefully designed and thought out. We were lucky enough to stay in the forest cabins and it was fabulous. I had a luxurious 1 bedroom cabin with bath tub in the room, of which I took full advantage of, a snug living room, equipped with cosy blankets and an open fire ( all ready set up) so the only effort required was a lit match. TV on the wall with Netflix primed at the ready and a stash of goodies we’d acquired from the wonderful shop onsite, Cabu Corner. It was the perfect way to end the day.

In the morning I grabbed a coffee and a pastry from Cabu Corner before heading off to my Spa treatment. Cabu by the lakes is less than 2 hours from Dublin and the same from Belfast, making it an ideal location. Unfortunately our time in Cabu was too short, I’d recommend a minimum stay of 2 nights. There is plenty to do here, from kayaking, bike rides, spa treatments, hot tubs, long leisurely forest walks, sipping cocktails by an open fire, connecting your body and mind, finally reading that long overdue book, or just to rewind and relax. At Cabu ” luxury is intentional, creating refined spaces for rest, reflection and immersion in nature”
Two night stay at Cabu by the lakes start from €70 in a Woodland Cabin and from €995 in the Barnhouse with hot Tub, all subject to season and availability.
