Valencia Begins Holy Grail Jubilee Year with New Visitor Centre and Guided Tours

The city of Valencia – on Spain‘s east coast – has formally begun its celebrations of the Jubilee Year of the Holy Grail, with new exhibitions, masses, guided tours and reception centre unveiled.

Reception Centre Unveiled

Among the highlights of the Jubilee Year is the new Visitor Reception Centre. Housed in the historic Almudín building, it will be the perfect starting point for anyone eager to discover the stories and heritage of the Holy Chalice. The Almudín building, with its medieval basilica-style architecture and mural paintings depicting the grain trade and historic guilds, showcases exceptional culture and heritage.

The Visitor Reception Centre offers a captivating journey through the legend and legacy of the Holy Grail. The immersive exhibition traces the relic’s origins, meaning, and travels before its arrival in Valencia. Eight interpretive panels showcase the documents, artworks, and milestones that have shaped the history of this remarkable symbol of faith and heritage.

Visitors can enhance their visit with an English audio guide, explore touchscreen archives, and experience a chronological projection bringing centuries of history to life. An educational zone with engaging audiovisual content offers even deeper insight into one of the world’s most enduring legends.

Guided Tours, Exhibitions and Masses

Adding to the celebrations of this significant year will be the guided tours available. The two-hour route will follow the trail of the Holy Chalice starting at the Tourist Office and stopping at the Church of San Martín, Plaza del Patricia, Church of San Juan, Casa de Sabina Suey and, lastly, the Cathedral of Valencia.

The tour provides visitors the opportunity to learn about the fascinating history including stories of the Knights Templar who searched for the Holy Grail and many others who coveted it.

Additionally, the MuVIM (Museu Valencià de la Il·lustració i de la Modernitat), located in the heart of Valencia, will host a special exhibition dedicated to the Holy Grail, offering a complementary perspective from a museum and documentary viewpoint. Throughout the year, masses are held every Thursday at 19:30 in the Chapel of the Holy Chalice, located in the Cathedral of Valencia, providing a serene space for reflection and spiritual connection.
