The ITAA Conference 2025 kicked off this week in the Center of Portugal. Delegates travelled from Dublin to Lisbon onboard TAP Airlines, before being transferred to the stunning Hotel Montebelo Mosteiro de Alcobaca Historic Hotel where we were welcomed in true Portuguese style with a wine reception before heading out to the opening dinner in Restaurant Antonio Padeiro.

The following day, delegates took part in golf, golf clinics, walking tours while some chose to go for a bit of religious divinity out in Fatima. That evening, it was off to the beautiful outdoor venue Vineyards Quinta da Cerca do Colégio, where over 80 of us were treated to exceptional local sparkling, red, white, and rosé wines, alongside regional delicacies at a lively “Wine Party.”

Opening the conference this morning was ITAA President Tom Randles, before moderator Eoghan Corry introduced João Quaresma, who delivered a lively and engaging presentation on the Center of Portugal, joined by “Poet” Paul Manning of Hertz and Hugh Bruton of Brittany Ferries on guitar. Ricardo Dinis of TAP Airlines followed with a warm presentation on the airline and its strong relationship with the Irish market.
AI and its impact on the industry was a highlight topic of the day and was led by industry expert Danny Waine of Travelnomads who ran us through systems that can be used to streamline AI into your business. NDC (as usual) was the conversation that brought some interesting debates from both the panel (Jenny Rafter, Maura Fahy, Christian Moller, Marta Alves) and the audience.

Claire Doherty presented a great member spotlight on the Travel Department, giving some staggering stats including that they have 85% Irish guests of which 70% of those are repeat clients. The Travel Department travels to over 200 destinations worldwide – what a company and welcome addition to the travel trade.
Carlos Pinto de Oliveira, Director Visit Portugal in Ireland talked all things Portugal to an already exceptionally informed audience. Carlos gave an engaging overview of Portugal’s traditions, scenery, and travel opportunities and diversity and he had us all dreaming of coming back to Portugal soon.
Jean Maxwell and Clare Dunne provided an informative update on the progress, priorities, and plans of the ITAA, followed by Anne Dolan, who presented the latest travel law updates.

Daniela Cintra brought us through turning strategy into bookings by using the power of marketing, which was delivered with real conviction.
Martin Skelly wants to get us all walking and after his member spotlight on UWalk.ie – I may just do that. The Camino has always been on my bucket list!
Jeanette Taylor with her bubbly and humorous personality easily managed to make insurance sound interesting during her sponsor update which was full of character and style – but with the serious message to ensure to book insurance at the time of booking.

The conference ended with an emotive and honest discussion on whether to ‘consolidate or cultivate’ which was led by John Galligan, Paul Sexton and Dave O’Brien.
Tonight the Gala dinner will take place here in the hotel, which is sure to be an elegant affair, with hair and makeup being arranged for many delegates to enjoy.
Tomorrow delegates are being hosted on some historical and sweet trips across the Center of Portugal with lunch being hosted at Alcobaca Apple Orchard before heading to São Martinho do Porto for a farewell beach party. The conference closes on Sunday morning with an early departure on TAP airlines.
