Whitbread – the UK conglomerate which owns Premier Inn – has been granted planning permission, by Cork City Council, to build a new 173-bedroom hotel on the corner of MacCurtain Street and Brian Boru Street on Cork City’s northside.

The €30m development will be built on the site of the old Leisureplex building, which Whitbread acquired early last year.

Premier Inn opened its first property in Cork – on Morrison’s Quay – last year.
