Four Spanish journalists – with a combined audience of over 1 million – have been exploring the Wild Atlantic Way and Causeway Coastal Route, as guests of Tourism Ireland, Fáilte Ireland and Tourism NI.
Representing various online news platforms, newspapers and a radio station, the group has been finding out more about our Spanish Armada history and its shipwrecks along our coastline. Tourism Ireland’s aim is to highlight our rich heritage and history and to inspire potential Spanish holidaymakers to visit Ireland and explore that heritage for themselves.

The journalists’ busy itinerary included Spanish Point and the Cliffs of Moher in County Clare, Galway city, Streedagh Beach and the Spanish Armada Visitor Centre in County Sligo, as well as Glencar Waterfall and Rossclogher Castle. The journalists’ itinerary also took them to the walled city of Derry, the Giant’s Causeway, Dunluce Castle, Titanic Belfast and the Ulster Museum.
Susan Bolger, Tourism Ireland’s Manager Spain, said: “Tourism Ireland was delighted to invite these influential Spanish journalists to discover our stunning coastline – and, in particular, the history of the Spanish Armada shipwrecks. Their articles and broadcasts will reach over 1 million potential Spanish holidaymakers, inspiring them to put Ireland on their holiday ‘wish-list’ and come and explore our beautiful coastline.

“Tourism Ireland undertakes a busy publicity programme around the world each year to raise the profile of Ireland – and visits by influential journalists like these are a key element of that programme.”
