Ryanair Appoints Ray Conway Head of Aviation Safety, Replacing Mike O’Brien

Ryanair has announced Captain Ray Conway is set to join the company’s board of directors, as a non-executive director with responsibility for overseeing aviation safety.

Captain Conway will formally replace Mike O’Brien in the role as of the beginning of October.

Captain Conway, an Irish national, has a long and distinguished career in the aviation industry. After serving 13 years as a pilot in the Irish Air Corps, he joined Ryanair in 1987 and served as Chief Pilot from 2002 until his retirement in 2020. Since then, he has provided consulting services on operational and safety issues to a number of large international airlines – including Ryanair.

Ryanair Chairman Stan McCarthy said: “We are delighted that Captain Ray Conway has accepted our invitation to join the Board of Directors of Ryanair Holdings plc from 1 October 2025. He will replace Captain Mike O’Brien with responsibility for aviation safety and with the task of advising the Board of Directors on all matters relating to aviation safety. Ray brings a wealth of experience in the aviation and security industry to this role. We look forward to working with him on the Board of Directors in the coming years.”
