The German National Tourist Office reports that the number of recorded overnight stays in Germany in July by visitors from Ireland increased by 5.5% compared to July 2012.
The overall trend for visitor numbers from Ireland to Germany is on a continuing and steady upward course and the reasons are varied, reflecting the choice available for holidays. These include cultural visits, city breaks, sports interests, or longer stays in the countryside (camping is increasingly popular), health and wellness. Visitors from Ireland have realised that Germany offers choice, value for money and extends a very warm welcome to visitors – summer, winter or any time of year.
The GNTO recently launched two new campaigns for 2014: a new ‘Royal Heritage Route’ marking the 300th anniversary of the Hanoverian accession to the thrones of the UK and Ireland: www.germany.travel/royalheritage and a multi-media campaign with a new website for accessible travel: ‘Discover Germany BarrierFree’: www.germany.travel/barrierfree .
Klaus Lohmann, Director, GNTO UK and Ireland said: “This has been an exceptional summer; many Irish visitors tell us that once they have ‘discovered’ Germany, they return again and again. There is so much to discover there, that of course this could take some time! We are delighted that so many visitors from Ireland are finding their ideal holiday in Germany – and long may it continue.”
