New tourist taxes for cruise ship visitors are set to be introduced across Greece and its islands from the beginning of next month, according to reports.
The highest rate – €20 per cruise passenger – will be charged on the islands of Mykonos and Santorini across the peak summer holiday season, running up to the end of September.

After that the charge will drop to €12 and then to €4 from November through to March, when they will return to €12 and then €20 when summer comes around again next year.
Other cruise hotspots around Greece will charge between €1 and €5 per passenger depending on the time of year.
The Greek Government is trying to lessen the threat of overtourism and feel Santorini and Mykonos are most affected by large cruise numbers.
