ITTN’s Katie Doyle is on board the Riviera 2025 FAM sailing on the MS Jane Austen from Paris to Normandy and back again for 8 days.
After an incredible cruise that took in the sights of Rouen, the Normandy beaches and D-Day landings, Honfleur, Giverny and Vernon and an eagerly awaited tour of Montmarte in Paris this afternoon- she’s now a river cruise convert!
As a newbie to river cruising, Katie wasn’t sure what to anticipate stepping on the MS Jane Austen but can report that this river cruise is the height of luxury.

Each room on the cruise has its very own French balcony, robe and slippers, Riviera travel water with a dispenser at the end of the hall, hot showers in a spacious bathroom, as much storage space as you could possibly need and a Nespresso machine! Housekeeping is done daily with a turndown service in the evening where guests receive their next-day itinerary and a chocolate!
The ship itself is magnificent- with relaxing lounge area, downstairs restaurant, a boutique, travel desk and reception alongside a stretching sundeck with a small pool, sun loungers and comfy seating perfect for reading and writing as you sail down the Seine.

The food on board is also fantastic- with hot and cold buffet options alongside a complete menu, lunch is served daily from 12.30 to 2pm and dinner is served between 7pm and 8.30pm. The menu onboard changes daily, with plenty of options to choose from to suit every appetite. Travelling with two vegetarians and one vegan, Katie was surprised at the attention to detail and effort both culinary and floor staff made to ensure that each guest onboard was taken care of.
Every afternoon and evening on board entertainment played a variety of slow songs to Jazz to the delightful Popcorn girls that welcomed us to the Normandy leg of the trip- this evening, a Parisian accordionist will be boarding as a welcome to the beautiful city of love.

The ship is just as important as the stops along the way and Katie can tell you that they are a perfect match in beauty and sophistication as found on the ship- check out our other article on the Itinerary for more and stay tuned this week for a full review of the sights!
