Spain’s Balearic Islands – Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera – will increase its sustainable tourism tax rate in the peak summer months this year.
There will also be a new tax on holiday rental vehicles, with the money going towards investing in public transport as a way of compensating – and ultimately lowering – car emissions.

The Balearics have scrapped the sustainable tourism tax for the early months of this year and will reintroduce it – with higher rates – for the peak months of June, July and August.
The lowest tax rates will rise from €1 to €2.5 per night and the highest rates will go from €4 to €6 per night.
There will also be a rise – from €2 to €6 per night – for cruise ship visitors.
