India Renewing Focus on Sustainable and Responsible Tourism

India is actively looking to strengthen its focus on sustainable and responsible tourism.

The tourism department of the country’s government is looking to drive more environmentally-conscious tourism and travel nationwide through a series of new environmental and eco-tourism-focused policies and initiatives.

Initiatives will include developing tourism infrastructure in environmentally sensitive regions and turning tourism destinations into sustainable travel hubs.

Globally, the ecotourism industry is currently valued at over $172bn and is expected to reach $374bn by 2028.

Furthermore, recent research found that over 80% of global travellers look to prioritise sustainable travel.
