World Travel Awards 2024: NCL, Dubai and Jamaica Dominate Cruise Category

It was a case of business as usual in the cruise category of this year’s World Travel Awards, which were recently handed out at a gala reception in Madeira’s capital Funchal.

Jamaica was named World’s Leading Cruise Destination at this year’s World Travel Awards. It marked the 19th year in a row the country has won the prestigious accolade.

This year the Caribbean island nation fought off competition from Peru, Seychelles, Sydney, Dubrovnik, Lisbon, Miami, Dubai and Brazil.

In the World’s Leading Cruise Port category, it was a case of 17th year in a row for Mina Rashid in Dubai. It broke Miami and Port of Copenhagen’s stranglehold in this category in 2008 and hasn’t looked back since.

PortMiami, Port of Valparaiso in Chile, Port of Ocho Rios in Jamaica, Singapore Cruise Centre, Port Victoria in Seychelles, Port of Durban, Port of Cape Town, Lisbon Cruise Port, Kai Tak Cruise Terminal in Hong Kong, Halong International Cruise Port in Vietnam, Port of Cozumel, Port of Copenhagen, Port of Vancouver, and Port of Cartagena in Colombia were the other nominees.

Meanwhile, Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) took home the World’s Leading Cruise Line gong for the 9th year in a row. NCL beat Carnival Cruise Line, Cunard, Celebrity Cruises, Silversea, Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, Holland America Line, MSC Cruises, Oceania Cruises, P&O Cruises, Princess Cruises, Regent Seven Seas Cruises, Silversea, Disney Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean International – which previously dominated this category – to this year’s top prize.
