Porto Increases Tourist Tax for Visitors to €3 Per Night

CLIA UK & Ireland Destination Showcase

Porto has increased its tourist tax for visitors.

The Porto Municipal Assembly approved the increase, which takes immediate effect.

It sees a €1 increase – from €2 to €3 – in the additional amount visitors must pay for staying overnight in the northern Portuguese city.

The city’s local authority said the need for the additional charge is to tackle the growing costs related to supporting tourism infrastructure and the city’s development.

The city’s authorities said relevant costs came to €15.5m – covering planning, infrastructure, environmental initiatives and cultural/heritage protection and maintenance – last year.
