Mallorca’s Palma Airport has reopened today, following yesterday’s freak storm which brought about flash flooding, but stranded passengers are being urged to check with their airlines regarding travel updates.
Palma de Mallorca Airport temporarily closed on Tuesday due to heavy rainfall of up to 74 litres per square metre, which flooded runways and terminal buildings; and forced flight diversions and cancellations.
The airport has reopened today, but a massive clean-up operation is in full swing. The Mallorcan Met Office has forecast more rain for today, before a gradual improvement in weather conditions on Thursday.
In a statement, airport operator Aena, said: “The Airport has activated the flood emergency plan and is working as quickly as possible to restore normality at the Airport. Aena recommends passengers to check with their airline before travelling to the airport.”
