Eurostar Targets 100% Switch to Renewable Energy for its Trains by 2030

The Eurostar high-speed train network – which links London with mainland Europe; via the likes of Paris, Amsterdam and Brussels, is aiming to power its trains with 100% renewable energy – including solar power – by 2030.

Eurostar’s first ever sustainability report, published today, shows that the company wants its trains to be seen as a greener mode of transport than the alternatives.

Eurostar said the 6-year transition plan is “deliberately ambitious” with it aimed at driving change across the public transport sector, which accounts for 25% of Europe’s emissions.

Eurostar’s Dutch-based trains have been powered, solely, by wind power since 2017.

The transport giant is also looking to minimise food and packaging wastage.
