City Hall in Cork is to be the venue of “a new and exciting travel fair” next February. Called ‘Home and Away, The Southern Travel Fair’, the event is to be organised by Dublin-based S&L Promotions Ltd and is supported by the Irish Travel Agents Association.
S&L are the organisers of the successful ‘Over 50s Show’ that has been mounted at the RDS, Dublin, for the past 11 years and which attracts over 20,000 visitors over three days. Reinforcing the credentials of the company, S&L also organised the tented village at the K Club – venue for the 2006 Ryder Cup – for the European Open for five years, and has also organised food and IT events, as well as putting on the Over 50s Show all over Ireland, as well as in Spain.
Fair organiser Brian McCabe told ITTN: “It is remarkable that there has not been a travel fair in Cork for six years and we are well equipped to fill the void. Numerous tourist boards, travel agencies and hotels take part in our Over 50s Shows and we are therefore confident of mounting a successful event in Cork that will appeal to exhibitors and the public.”
The Cork event will accommodate almost 100 stands, as well as featuring entertainment and presentations by experts on various aspects of travel, at home and abroad.
Brian McCabe added: “We always try to give the public value for money at our events and the admission charge will be a modest €5, unlike some events today that try to rip off visitors. Stand costs are also modest for exhibitors and we look forward to hearing from potential exhibitors for our Cork event.
