Budget hotel chain Travelodge has created a new internal role – director of sustainability – to help drive its net zero emissions policy and enhance its ESG strategy.
Demi Turner – a former executive at the likes of ASOS, WPP, KFC and Whitbread – has been appointed to fill the role.
Travelodge’s goal – as part of its Better Future Plan – is to become a net-zero business by 2050, a delivery target which will be Ms Turner’s chief responsibility in her new role.
The plan will cover all of Travelodge’s 600, or so, hotels across the UK, Ireland and Spain. In Ireland, Travelodge operates 11 hotels across Dublin, Belfast, Cork, Galway and Waterford.
Last May it opened its first Travelodge PLUS hotel – its more luxury sub-chain – in Ireland, with the first opening in Dublin.
Claire Good, Travelodge Chief Operating Officer said: “At Travelodge, sustainability runs through everything we do and we are delighted to welcome Demi as we accelerate our ESG strategy. Demi’s extensive experience across this sector will be invaluable as we seek to create a Better Future for our customers, our colleagues and the environment.”
Demi Turner, Director of Sustainability, said: “I am thrilled to be joining Travelodge at such an exciting time in the company’s commitment to sustainability. There is such an appetite to accelerate the progress of sustainability across the hospitality industry and Travelodge’s initiatives via its Better Future Plan, underpin the Company’s commitment to do this.”
